A month later than usual, Samsung has finally revealed the much-anticipated Galaxy S22 series of smartphones. Today, in a virtual event titled “Samsung Galaxy Unpacked February 2022”, the Korean company revealed, as expected, three new 5G smartphones named Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 +, and Galaxy S22 Ultra.
As usual, Samsung released this series in two models: the first comes with the latest high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 8Gen1 processor and Adreno 730 graphics processor, and the second model comes with Samsung's new Exynos 2200 processor and Xclipse 920 GPU developed by Samsung in cooperation with AMD.
Both processors contain eight cores of the new ARM v9-A architecture, in a 4 nm manufacturing process, and provide almost the same performance, with a slight superiority to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in term of stability and power management.
All Samsung Galaxy S22 series phones come with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen, Stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E, USB Type-C 3.2 port for charging and data transfer, Samsung DeX and Wireless DeX support, NFC, UFS 3.1 internal storage, LPDDR5X RAM, and without a charger brick in the box.
Samsung Galaxy S22 & Galaxy S22+:
The standard Samsung Galaxy S22 series comes with 6.1 inches full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, with an adaptive fresh rate (10Hz to 120Hz), 240 Hz sampling touch, HDR10+ support, 1300 nits screen brightness, and 425 pixels per inch (PPI) density.
On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S22+ comes with a 6.6 inches full HD+ Dynamic 2X AMOLED display, with an adaptive fresh rate (10Hz to 120Hz), 240 Hz sampling touch, HDR10+ support, 1750 nits screen brightness, and 393 pixels per inch (PPI) density.
The Galaxy S22 series is equipped with a new display technology called Vision Booster technology which automatically adjusts the screen to the lighting around you and enhances color contrast, to give you a better view of the content you're watching on the screen, which is a useful feature, especially if you are outside.
Both phones are protected by the new Gorilla Glass Victus+ layer and certified as IP 68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5 m for 30 mins).
As for the camera, the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus come with a 3-camera system on the back that can record videos in up to 8K resolution at 24 frames per second, and consist of:
- 50-megapixel primary camera with a wide-angle lens, f/1.8 aperture, and supports Auto Focus (AF) and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
- 12-megapixel Ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 lens aperture and 120-degree field of view.
- 10-megapixel telephoto camera with f/2.4 lens aperture, and supports OIS and 3X optical zoom.
The two smartphones have a 10-megapixel wide-angle selfie camera with an f/2.2 lens slot, which supports autofocus. The selfie camera can record videos in up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
The battery on the Galaxy S22 is a 3700 mAh battery that supports 25W wired fast charging, 15W Fast wireless charging, and 4.5W Reverse wireless charging, while the plus size of the smartphone has a bigger 4500 mAh battery that supports 45W wired fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and as well 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ come with One UI 4.1 interface based on Android 12, with 8 GB of RAM, and two internal storage options: 128 GB or 256 GB. Both devices will be available in the Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Pink Gold colors, and for the pricing, Galaxy S22 will start at $799.99 and Galaxy S22+ will start at $999.99 beginning February 25, 2022.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra:
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the phone with the highest specifications and costs in the Galaxy S22 series, and this year it comes with a flat design similar to the design of the famous Note series from Samsung with a special slot for the S pen, which may confirm that the company has already unified the S and S series Notes together in one device and that it may not release any Note phone anymore.
Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 90% screen-to-body ratio, 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate (1 Hz to 120 Hz), HDR 10+ support, 1750 nits screen brightness,500 PPI density, and has Vision Booster technology. The phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus + and has IP68 certification for dust/water resistance (up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes).
This phone has a rear camera system consisting of 4 cameras capable of shooting video at up to 8K resolution at 24 frames per second. The rear camera system consists of:
- 108 MP wide-angle main camera, with f/1.8 lens aperture, that supports Auto Focus (AF), Laser AF, and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
- 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, f/2.2 lens aperture, 120-degree field of view, supports AF and the Super Steady video technology.
- 10 MP telephoto camera with f/2.4 lens aperture, supports AF, OIS, and 3X to 10X optical zoom.
- 10 MP periscope telephoto camera, f/4.9 lens aperture, supports AF, OIS, and up to 10X optical zoom.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra can achieve a zoom of up to X100 thanks to the Space Zoom feature, which includes 10x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom with AI Super Resolution technology.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 40-megapixel front camera with a wide-angle lens, with f /2.2 lens aperture, 80-degree field of view, supports autofocus, and is capable of shooting 4K video at 60 frames per second.
