Opera Announces a New Web3-Centric Browser

Opera has announced a new browser dedicated to Web3 called Crypto Browser Project in a bid to make blockchain technologies understandable and easy to use for everyone.

Web3 is a term referring to the idea of a new generation of web technologies based on blockchain technology. It is a decentralized version of the Internet that will be jointly owned by users and builders, unlike the current Web 2.0 version which relies on centralization, since all users' data is in the hands and at the disposal of one entity such as Google and Facebook, which raises questions about users' privacy and security.

Opera isn’t new to the Web3 space, as, in 2018, the company launched the world’s first browser with a built-in crypto wallet.

Opera's Crypto Browser is the first of its kind dedicated to the next generation of the web and comes preinstalled with a native, non-custodial crypto wallet that allows users to access their cryptocurrencies or log into decentralized Apps (dApps) directly from the browser without having to install any extensions, which is expected to provide additional security for users and their crypto as the browser and the wallet are developed by the same company, and all operations are carried out within the browser.

Crypt Browser’s wallet currently supports only Ethereum, but Opera says the wallet will also support Bitcoin, Celo, Nervos, Handshake, Polygon, and Solana.

With Crypto Browser wallet, you will also get a secure clipboard that makes sure no other apps have modified your wallet address or other sensitive data while copying and pasting.

Crypto Browser also has a Crypto Corner that can be accessed by clicking on a blue square at the top of the browser, which allows users to access the latest blockchain news, upcoming airdrops, an industry events calendar, NFTs, crypto communities, educational content, podcasts, and videos as well as crypto prices, gas fees, and market sentiment.

Of course, like every other Opera browser, Crypto Browser is also available with a no-log browser VPN, a native ad-blocker, and a tracker blocker. This Opera browser also has a sidebar with built-in shortcuts to Twitter, Telegram, and WhatsApp to make it easy to connect with your friends, family, and work.

Opera Crypto Browser is in beta testing, available for download for Windows, macOS, and Android, with the company promising a release soon for iOS and no information about a Linux version.
