Huawei announces Mate X2



In a virtual event, Huawei announces the second generation of its foldable devices, the Mate X2 in China.


Mate X2 is the third foldable device after the Mate X in 2019 and Mate XS in the last year. It is a device with a new design and an improved multi-dimensional hinge made of high-density zirconium-based metal (according to Huawei) with an 8.0-inch full-screen OLED screen (without a notch) with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, a touch sampling rate of 180 Hz, a resolution of 2200 x 2480 pixels (about 413 pixels per inch), fold-in, and a second screen display of 6.45-inch OLED screen, with a resolution of 2700 x 1160 pixels (about 456 pixels per inch in density), a refresh rate of 90 Hz, and an external touch sampling rate of 240 Hz can be used when folding.



The Mate X2 is powered by the 5 nm octa-core Kirin 9000 5G flagship processor clocked at up to 3.13 GHz with the 24-core Mali-G78 GPU, 8 GB of RAM, up to 512 GB or internal storage extensible with an SD card, and runs on EMUI 11 based on Android 10, and it will be one of the first devices to receive Harmony OS starting this April.





The rear camera system is capable to record videos at up to 4K at 60 frames per second (FPS) and powered by Leica as usually, and consist of an f/1.9 50 MP wide-angle camera that supports the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), and Laser Auto Focus (AF), an f/2.2 16 MP ultrawide camera with AF support, an f/2.4 12 MP telephoto camera that supports OIS, AF, and up to 3X optical zoom, and an f/4.4 8 MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS, AF, and up to 10X optical zoom support, while the selfie camera is an f/2.2 16 MP wide camera that can shot videos at up to 1080p at 30fps located on the external 6.4-inch display.



The Mate X2 foldable phone is powered by a 4500 mAh battery with 55 W fast charging support and comes with stereo speakers, NFC, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, side-mounted fingerprint, and it's available in four colors: Black, White, Light Blue, Rose Gold, and the phone will be available to buy on 25th February in China for ¥17,999 (~ $2785) for the 256 GB of internal storage version, and for ¥18,999 (~ $2940), without any details from Huawei regarding its release date or its price outside China.
