Apple announces iPhone 12


 

As expected, during October 13th virtual event, Apple unveiled this year's new iPhone lineup powered by iOS 14.1, OLED displays and 5G capabilities, which includes 4 new smartphones  with a new flat-edged design, protected by the new Ceramic Shield cover that replaces the standard cover glass and offers 4x better drop performance, and a new smart speaker called HomePod mini.

The iPhone 12 is powered by the new Apple A14 Bionic (5 nm) hex-core processor which, according to Apple, is 50% faster than the fastest competing smartphone processors, and feature a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 460 pixels per inch density, a resolution of 2532 × 1170, HDR10 support, True Tone, and Haptic Touch feedback, and a dual rear camera system consisting of a 12-megapixel wide camera (f/1.6 aperture) supporting dual pixel PDAF, optical image stabilization (OIS), and a second 12-megapixel camera (f/2.4 aperture, 120-degree field of view) with an ultra-wide lens, supports 2x optical zoom and up to 5x digital zoom. Both cameras have support for Night mode, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 3 with scene detection, HDR video recording with Dolby Vision at 30 frames per second (fps), 4K video recording at up to 60 fps, and slow motion video support at 1080p up to 240fps, cinematic video stabilization (for 4K, 1080p and 720p), playback zoom, support for capturing 8-megapixel still photos while recording 4K video and Stereo recording.

 


The selfie camera is a 12 MP wide camera (f/2.2 aperture) that supports Portrait and Night modes, Animoji and Memoji, Auto image stabilization, Smart HDR 3 with Scene Detection, Retina Flash, in addition to HDR video recording with Dolby Vision at 30 fps, 4K video recording at up to 60 fps, and slow motion video support at 1080p up to 120 fps.

 


The battery in iPhone 12 provides up to 17 hours of video playback, 11 hours of streaming video playback, or 65 hours of audio playback, and supports fast charging, allowing you to charge 50 percent in 30 minutes using a 20W power adapter (sold separately), Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W, and wireless charging up to 15W using the new MagSafe accessory.

The new iPhone also comes with Face ID facial recognition biometric authentication, IP68 water and dust resistance, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling support,  the Ultra Wideband chip (U1), FaceTime HD video calling (at 1080p) over 5G or Wi-Fi, and without the power adapter and Earpods that Apple scrapped from this year's models as well as the Apple Watch Series 6 and the rest of the iPhones currently on sale.



iPhone 12 is available in Black, White, Red, Green, and Blue color options, and in three storage options 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB, with a price starts at $829 in the US ($799 for the Verizon and AT&T customers).

Apple also introduced at this event a second iPhone called “iPhone 12 mini” with a smaller 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display (476 ppi density, and 2340 × 1080 resolution) with the same cameras, performance and display characteristics, and a battery that can provide Up to 15 hours of video playback, 10 hours of streaming video playback, or 50 hours of audio playback, which supports fast and wireless charging with the same capacity as iPhone 12.

 


iPhone 12 mini is available in the same color (Black, White, Red, Green, and Blue) and storage (64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB) options as the iPhone 12 for a price starts at $729 in the US  ($699 for the Verizon and AT&T customers).
