During the virtual event called “LaunchNightIn” on September 30th, Google announced the much awaited new Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 smartphones along with the new Chromecast with Google TV, and the new Nest Audio smart speaker.
Pixel 4a 5G:
Google unveils the 5G version of the Pixel 4a smartphone launched in last August with a 6.2 inches (15.75 cm) edge-to-edge full HD plus OLED display (~84.1% screen-to-body ratio) with 413 pixels per inch in density protected by the Gorilla Glass 3, powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 765G processor from Qualcomm clocked at 2.4 GHz and the just released Android 11, with 6 GB of ram and a non-extendible (comes without an SD card slot) 128 GB of internal storage (UFS 2.1), and two rear cameras :a 12.2 MP, f/1.7 main wide camera that support dual pixel PDAF and the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), and a second 16 MP, f/2.2 ultrawide angle lens camera with a 107-degree field of view, that support video recording up to 4K at 60 frames per second (60 fps).
Pixel 4a 5G comes also with a punch hole 8 MP selfie camera that can record video up to 1080p at 30 fps, a 3.5 mm jack port, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C 3.1 charging port, a rear-mounted fingerprint a 3885 mAh non-removable battery that support fast charging up to 18W in only one color option called “Just Black” for $499.
Pixel 5:
The Pixel 5 smartphone does not differ really from the Pixel 4a 5G, it is powered by the same processor (Snapdragon 765G), the same rear and front camera system, and has the same 128 GB internal storage (UFS 2.1), but with 8 GB of ram, a smaller 6.0 inches (15.24 cm) edge-to-edge OLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 6 with a 90 Hz refresh rate, a density of 432 pixels per inch and supports HDR10+, alongside a bigger non-removable battery of 4080 mAh that supports fast charging up to at 18W, wireless and reverse wireless charging.
This phone has also a water resistance, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C 3.1 charging port, and available in two colors options: Just Black, Sorta Sage from $699.
What does Pixel 5a and 4a 5G really offers ?:
Besides all these hardware specifications, what really sets Google phones is the software, they come with a pure Android version with the wonderful Pixel UI interface which give the user the best Android experience ever, combined with the latest Google technologies that make you get a great photography experience, and Pixel 5 and 4a 5G comes with an upgraded version of HDR+ that's make you take clearer pictures than before with the new “HDR+ with Bracketing” mode on Pixel, and two new features for the portrait mode: the “Night Sight” feature that helps you to capture wonderful pictures in the super low light conditions, and the “Portrait Light” feature that enables you to control the illumination of your portrait pictures, alongside with three new stabilization modes: cinematic pan, locked and active.
Those two new Google's smartphones comes with new features that help you get the most out of the G5 service such as the “Smart Downloads with 5G” feature that downloads your YouTube Music playlists, so you can listen to your favorite music even if You don't have an internet connection, and the “HD screen sharing” on google Duo.
The Pixel 5 and 4a 5G has a Titan M chip to help you to keep all your data secures on your phone, and will receive the OS and security updates for three years. They have also an “Extreme Battery Saver” feature that allow you to decide which essential app you want to keep on when everything else get paused to help you to keep your phone's battery going for up to 48 hours, and while it's on the apps that are paused, you will not receive notifications from them, and a new “Hold for Me” mode that let Google assistant wait on hold for you during calls, in this mode the Assistant is listening for you so that you can do other things on your phone during the hold period, and when someone is ready to answer you, the assistant alerts you.
And in case you have an older generation Pixel phone, and you want to take advantage of these new features, you do not need to worry, as Google guarantee you that the latest technology is always supported on your current Pixel phone as soon as it is ready via the new “Feature Drops” feature, and you will be able to try the “Extreme Battery Saver” and “Hold for Me” features on your older generation Pixel phone very soon, as Google says. And when you buy a new Pixel 5 or 4a 5G phone, you will get 3 months of Stadia Pro, YouTube Music, 100 GB of storage with Google One, and Google play pass and play points for free.
